What is tooth extraction?

Tooth extraction is the removal of a tooth from the alveolar bone with different forms of tools. The main causes of tooth peeling are severe tooth decay, periodontal disease, cracked teeth and the need for braces.

General tooth extraction and non-surgical tooth extraction

There are many reasons why teeth need to be removed, when dental patients make an appointment for tooth extraction and after the dentist has examined and determined that there is a need for tooth extraction, one of the following extraction methods will be used:

Performed non-surgically

This is the simplest method of tooth extraction and is for teeth that are generally growing normally. The procedure involves local anesthesia applied to the affected area of the patient’s tooth and then shaking the tooth loose with an appropriate tool (e.g. forceps) before it is applied directly.

Performed surgically

If tooth decay is very serious, or the root of the tooth is severely broken or the tooth is not easy to extract, or the tooth is not easy to extract because of the lack of elasticity of the alveolar bone, which is common in the elderly, these conditions may not be able to use the usual tooth extraction method. These conditions may require surgery to be able to safely extract the bad tooth. First, the doctor will also administer local anesthesia to the tooth patient, after which the gum needs to be turned over, part of the alveolar bone is removed, the root of the tooth is exposed, and then the tooth is shaken and extracted. However, if the tooth is severely decayed, the doctor must first divide the tooth into several parts before the tooth can be safely removed. Finally, surgical threads can be used to stitch the wound for extraction, and after about a week, you can go to the dental office to be examined by a dentist and if all is right, the stitches can be removed.

Nixon Dental offers the above two methods of tooth extraction. If necessary, you can make an appointment with us for tooth extraction.
